Our latest film opens tomorrow.

Master thief Will Montgomery is just released from the State penitentiary after serving a 10 year sentence, is contacted by Jonah, his ex comrade in crime, who is holding Will’s teenage daughter ransom in a hijacked taxi cab. Jonah will only surrender her when Will reveals the whereabouts of the 20 million dollars he contrived to conceal from their last robbery.

VFX count = 222

Will post a breakdown reel in the next couple of days.

The Aliens are going to be lovable.

Fond memories of Earth smashing good times are going to be revisited. Two sequels to Independence Day have been announced. This interview with Dean Devlin has this quote about the movies:

"The thing that really hit me about the movie is how much love there is in it: between the characters; that the filmmakers had making it; that the cast had for each other. As we're approaching a sequel we're focusing on that aspect of it. Because I think that was really the key as to why it worked for everyone. It was lovable."

That's fine and all, but what about the names? Google translate gave me this from the German Web site filmstarts.

"The two sequels are not used individually, therefore, but a package to be. Title you've already " ID Forever - Part 1 "and" - Part 2 id Forever ".

So, there you are.

Getting the band back together...

The vfx community is truly global. Sometimes when a large project ends, you have to say goodbye to some truly dear colleagues, as they fly to far corners of the world. The bittersweet memories are abated when you can start hiring for the next project.  Today I had the pleasure of confirming my vfx supervisor, and procuring the services of my lead matte painter.  With more to come, it does seem like that ole' feeling you get knowing you will soon be working with some of your friends again … and some of the world's best talent.

So I saw it

I finally saw the finished movie last week projected in a theater. So satisfying to come to the end of a three year struggle with something that you can be proud. I'm not categorically thrilled... There will always be some nit picky bits that bother me, but as a whole, I'm happy. That's all I can really say about the content of Conan the Barbarian for now. No spoilers... But I think even hard core REH fans will be happy about the final product. Jason Mamoa Is Conan.

Will have much more to say around August 19.
